How Not to Over Pack

Home / Travel / How Not to Over Pack

It happens every time you go overseas – there’s always too much to lug around. What’s worse is that you probably end up paying excess luggage taxes on your way back. No matter how much you swear to yourself that this won’t happen again – it does. So here are a few tips that may help you avoid this situation.

1. Visualize it. Pick out all the things you think you want to wear at your destination and lay them out on your bed. Cut out all the unnecessary clothing one by one. Pick clothes that you can mix and match well. Colors like beige, black, white and brown go well with each other. Do not take more than 2 or 3 pairs of shoes and be sure to wear your heaviest pair when you board the plane.

2. Wash it. Usually you will be able to find laundry facilities at your destination. With this in mind, pack things that you can easily wash and dry. This will save you lot of space and less smelly clothes to bring back.

3. Minimize it. If you are going for a short stay or even to a tropical climate, you will not need much. If you can fit everything into the maximum allowed size carry-on bag, you will be surprised at the benefits. Better security, no waiting time at the carousel and quicker exit out of the airport are all things that you can experience with this method.

4. Keep room for it. You will buy lots of souvenirs and other things at your destination. So it is prudent that you leave room for these purchases.

5. Read up on it. By researching the destination, you can pack appropriately and avoid taking excess clothing.
